I have attracted plenty of unwarranted male attention (and too many incidents of groping) since my childhood days of commuting daily on public transport. But I didn't understand why because I was by no mean attractive. At one point, I naively considered those actions as compliments. I thought it was a sign that men didn't find me as unattractive as I believed. Boy, was I wrong. Took me my whole childhood to realize rape and harassment has nothing to do with attraction only power.
